ACBC Biblical Counseling
What is Biblical Counseling?
Biblical counseling is really the conversational characteristic of Christian ministry. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the Apostle Paul pens, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Speaking the truth in love, Biblical counselors bring a biblical approach through the Word of God into all aspects of counseling. It is often, focused discipleship. The most important aspect of biblical counseling is getting to the heart of the matter, the heart of self vs. the wisdom of God. Dr. David Powlison in an article he wrote on What Distinguishes Biblical Counseling from other Methods, summed up the following of what Biblical wisdom brings to a hurting people:
- Biblical wisdom considers all human phenomena with God in view; “Who are you now loving, trusting, serving, and fearing?”
- Biblical wisdom considers every part of our circumstances significant, but it gives final cause to the heart.”
- Biblical wisdom considers counseling to be a ministry of the saving power of the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.” Dr. David Powlison
